Technical SEO Services for UK Websites
Technical SEO makes sure Google can crawl, render and index every important page on your website. NextMark finds and fixes the problems that hold rankings back, from crawl errors and slow pages to duplicate URLs and missing schema, and because we also build websites, we fix the code ourselves. Plans start at £90 a month.
What Our Technical SEO Service Covers
Google has to find, render and index a page before it can rank it. If any of those steps go wrong, even excellent content stays invisible. These are the areas we check and fix.
Crawling and Indexing
We check robots.txt, XML sitemaps, noindex tags and the Page indexing report in Google Search Console, so the pages you want in Google are indexed and the rest stay out.
Core Web Vitals and Site Speed
We improve loading (LCP), responsiveness (INP) and visual stability (CLS) by fixing heavy images, render-blocking scripts, slow hosting and bloated themes or plugins.
Mobile-First Indexing
Google indexes the mobile version of your site. We make sure the mobile pages carry the same content, links and structured data as desktop and are easy to use on a phone.
Site Structure and Internal Links
A logical structure with important pages a few clicks from the homepage, descriptive internal links, breadcrumbs and no orphan pages that Google cannot find.
Structured Data (Schema)
We add and test structured data such as Organization, LocalBusiness, Service, Product, Article, FAQ and Breadcrumb markup, so Google understands what each page is about.
Redirects, 404s and Canonical Tags
We fix broken links, redirect chains and loops, soft 404s and duplicate URLs, and set canonical tags so one clear version of each page gets the ranking signals.
JavaScript Rendering
If your site relies on JavaScript, we check that Google can render the content and links, and that important text is not hidden behind clicks or loaded too late.
HTTPS and Site Security
Every page should load securely over HTTPS, with no mixed content, no insecure redirects and one preferred version of your domain (www or non-www).
Site Migrations and Redesigns
Changing your domain, platform or URLs is where many sites lose rankings. We map every old URL to its new home with 301 redirects and check the results after launch.
How Technical SEO Affects Your Rankings
Google Search works in three stages: crawling, where Googlebot discovers pages; indexing, where Google tries to understand them and stores them; and serving, where it shows the most relevant results (Google Search Central). Technical SEO protects the first two stages, so your content gets a fair chance in the third.
It is worth being honest about what technical SEO can and cannot do. Fixing technical problems removes the barriers between your pages and Google, and a fast, secure, mobile-friendly site also converts more visitors. But technical SEO alone does not make a page rank. Google still rewards the most relevant and helpful content, backed by links and a good reputation. That is why our plans combine technical SEO with on-page work and, from Growth, link building.
Our Technical SEO Checklist
Every technical SEO audit and monthly check covers these areas:
| Area | What we check |
|---|---|
| Crawling | robots.txt rules, XML sitemap, crawl errors, blocked resources, crawl budget on large sites, orphan pages |
| Indexing | Page indexing report, noindex tags, canonical tags, duplicate and thin pages, parameter and filter URLs, soft 404s |
| Rendering | JavaScript content and links, lazy-loaded content, what Google sees in the URL Inspection tool |
| Page experience | Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS), image size and format (WebP), caching, server response time, intrusive pop-ups |
| Mobile | Same content on mobile and desktop, tap targets, font size, viewport, no horizontal scrolling |
| Structure | URL structure, internal links and anchor text, breadcrumbs, click depth, pagination, navigation |
| Status codes | 301 vs 302 redirects, redirect chains, 404 and 410 pages, 5xx server errors |
| Structured data | Valid schema for your business type, errors and warnings in Search Console, rich result eligibility |
| Security | HTTPS everywhere, mixed content, one preferred domain, security issues report |
| International | hreflang tags and language versions, if you target more than one country or language |
| On-page | Title tags, meta descriptions, one clear H1, heading structure, image alt text, keyword cannibalisation |
| Monitoring | Google Search Console, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity set up, tracked keywords, alerts for new errors |
On-Page SEO Services
Once Google can reach your pages, each page needs to make it obvious what it is about and who it is for. Our on-page SEO service covers:
- Title tags and meta descriptions written for the searches you want, and to earn the click.
- Headings and content with one clear H1, a logical heading structure and copy that answers the searcher's question.
- Keyword mapping so each page targets its own group of searches, and two pages don't compete for the same one (keyword cannibalisation).
- Internal links with descriptive anchor text pointing to your most important pages.
- Images with useful alt text, sensible file names and modern formats such as WebP.
- Trust signals such as clear business details, author or team information and real examples of your work, which help both visitors and Google judge your expertise.
Core Web Vitals Explained
Core Web Vitals are Google's measures of real-world page experience. Google treats a page as good when it meets these targets for at least 75% of visits:
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): the main content loads within 2.5 seconds.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP): the page responds to clicks and taps within 200 milliseconds. INP replaced First Input Delay in March 2024.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS): the layout moves by less than 0.1, so buttons don't jump around while the page loads.
You can see your own scores in the Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console. We fix the causes, not just the score.
Technical SEO Audit vs Ongoing Technical SEO
A technical SEO audit is a one-off health check: it tells you what is wrong and what to fix first. Your first audit with us is free and arrives the same day as a PDF report with a proper analysis. A follow-up audit later costs £50.
Ongoing technical SEO is the monthly work of fixing those issues and catching new ones. Websites change all the time: new pages, plugin updates, deleted products and redesigns can all break things without anyone noticing. Our monthly plans check your site and Search Console regularly, so problems are fixed before they cost you rankings.
Technical SEO for AI Search
Google says there are no additional requirements for appearing in AI Overviews or AI Mode: a page must be indexed and eligible to show a snippet (Google Search Central). In practice, that means the same foundations: pages that can be crawled and indexed, content in plain text rather than hidden in scripts or images, clear structure and accurate structured data.
SEO Tools We Use
We use professional tools to find problems quickly, then explain what they mean for your business in plain English:
- Google Search Console: how Google crawls and indexes your site, your rankings and clicks, Core Web Vitals and any errors Google reports.
- Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity: how real visitors use your site, which pages lead to enquiries and sales, and where people get stuck.
- Screaming Frog: a full crawl of your website to find broken links, redirects, duplicate pages, missing tags and other technical issues.
- Semrush, Ahrefs, Moz and Ubersuggest: keyword research, rankings, backlinks and competitor analysis.
- AI-assisted audits: AI tools help us review large amounts of crawl and content data faster, so more of your budget goes on fixing problems.
SEO and Web Development Under One Roof
Many SEO agencies send you a list of technical problems and leave your developer to fix them. Because NextMark also builds websites, we can make most fixes ourselves, test them and confirm in Search Console that they worked. See our web development services. Technical SEO Results
For Advanced Materials Store, a US Magento store, we fixed robots.txt, the XML sitemap, 404 errors, trailing-slash duplicates and Core Web Vitals, and re-optimised titles, product content and alt text. The average Google position went from 18.6 to 9.6 and organic clicks rose 12% in 28 days. Source: Google Search Console. See more SEO case studies.
